Frequently asked questions

How does “Might be you” find my footage and photos?

We do not use facial recognition. We match on your GPS location and time, and surface clips filmed at that place and time as candidates.

What if my footage or photos don’t show up under “Might be you”?

“Might be you” automatically surfaces footage and photos taken at the same place and time as a session you logged. It may not appear if the clip was filmed somewhere that isn’t a registered spot (outside the lineup, off-spot), if you didn’t log a session, or if the clip and session times don’t overlap. In that case use “Search by area and time”: draw the area you surfed on the map and pick a time window.

How do I share my live location from an Apple Watch?

You leave your iPhone on the beach when you paddle out, so the Watch has to connect on its own. You need an Apple Watch with cellular (GPS + Cellular) and an active plan(Series 3 or later cellular, SE cellular, Ultra / Ultra 2). GPS-only models can still log a session, but cannot share your location in real time — you can drop a pin when you paddle out instead.

Is there a fee?

There is no monthly subscription. Many clips are free and can be received in the app (free is the default when a filmer publishes). For paid clips, filmers set the price in their own currency — $5–$50, and the same 5–50 in A$, NZ$ and €; filmers in Japan set ¥100–¥3,000. You pay only for the paid clips you buy.

How much do filmers earn?

The standard platform fee is 25% (the filmer keeps 75%). Filmers who qualify for the Early Filmer rate keep 85% (a 15% fee). Payouts are made through Stripe Connect.

What is the Early Filmer rate?

A time-limited preferential rate for early filmers. A filmer whose first sale completes on or before 31 December 2026 becomes an “Early Filmer”, and the usual 25% fee is discounted to 15% (the filmer keeps 85%). That rate applies to sales through 31 August 2027; from 1 September 2027 the standard 25% (filmer keeps 75%) applies. The fee rate is the same whether the buyer is a registered user or a guest, and applies to every sale. You can check whether the rate applies to you from the badge on the Earnings tab in the app.

Are payments secure?

Payments are processed securely by Stripe in an external browser. Card details are never held inside the app.

Is my privacy protected?

“Might be you” does not use facial recognition — it matches only on GPS and time. Footage and photos without the watermark are only obtained by buying them, or by claiming them when they are free, and we accept takedown requests for footage or photos you appear in whether or not you have an account. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I receive a free clip?

Sign in to the app and tap “Claim · Free” on the clip. You may only claim footage or photos you appear in. Once you claim a clip it is yours alone, and nobody else can claim it. Claiming someone else’s footage breaks the Terms and may get your account suspended. There is a daily limit on free clips. Free clips can’t be received on the web — please use the app.

Can I ask a filmer to film me? (“Film me”)

Yes. From “Film me” in the app, send a date, time, spot and a description of how to recognise you. You can send it to all filmers (everyone who can shoot it is notified) or pick filmers (only the filmers you pick are asked, and they reply whether they can). Requests are free — there is no filming fee or deposit. If none of the filmers you picked can make it, the request goes out to everyone, depending on your setting. We let you know when footage arrives, and you only buy what you like.

My requested footage says “Not ready yet”

The filmer has not finished setting up sales, so it cannot be bought yet. Tap “Request to buy” to let the filmer know. We will notify you in the app when it is ready, and you can buy it then. Sending a request to buy costs nothing.

I appear in a clip and want it removed

We accept these requests whether or not you have an account. Please use the “Reports and takedowns” channel below.

Surf spots (requesting an addition or a correction)

The set of spots FilmedSurf supports is still limited. If the break you surf isn’t registered as a spot, or if a registered spot has the wrong name or position, please contact us.

Please note that per-spot surf forecasts are currently available only for some breaks in Japan. They depend on local observation data and on-site verification, so adding a spot does not necessarily mean it will carry a forecast.

Reports and takedowns (rights infringement, likeness)

If you want a clip you appear in removed, if your footage or photos are being misused, or if you believe your rights are being infringed, please contact us below. We accept requests from people who do not have an account with this service, including third parties who appear incidentally in footage or photos.

If you appear in a clip and want it removed

Objections based on rights of likeness or privacy are accepted whether or not you have an account. Please contact the “Reports and takedowns” channel above with information identifying the clip. We will review it and act promptly. For the procedure, see Terms of Service, Article 12 (Takedown and reporting process).

Refunds, payments, and revenue share

Because of the nature of digital content we cannot offer refunds for change of mind. However, if (1) the footage will not play, the photo will not display, or the file is corrupt, (2) the buyer is not the person filmed, (3) the listing details (spot, time of filming) do not match the actual footage or photo, or (4) the same clip was purchased twice, please contact the email address above within 14 days of purchase. We will review the clip and decide case by case (the same applies where there is a statutory ground such as non-delivery). Note that the validity period of the download page in your purchase confirmation email (7 days) is separate from this refund window. For the procedure, see Terms of Service, Article 10 (Refunds). Payments are processed by Stripe and payouts to filmers are made through Stripe Connect. For payment enquiries, please use the email address above.

Account deletion and data requests

You can request account deletion from the settings inside the app or from the support channel. Requests to disclose, correct, delete, or suspend the use of your personal data are accepted the same way. See the Privacy Policy for details.
